Ben Folds Five: The Sound of the Life of the Mind

Some people go through life erecting informational barriers, filtering their otherwise unobstructed lifetime flow of knowledge & experience into reduced, albeit organized, columns of easily digestible & cataloged, binary stacks:

This stack is good, this stack is bad;

I’ll eat red food, I won’t eat blue food;

These songs are sunshine for my ears, these songs are phony doggy poo.

Sadly, when it comes to music, what may have been called commercial by the edgy kids in high school often turns out to be pretty good – as high school students aren’t known to have the best all-around taste – and then our depressed non-blue-food-eater misses out on Radiohead because he spent too much time listening to Throwing Copper (which was actually a pretty great album too, btw).

This post isn’t autobiographical, I’m just ranting a bit.

What I’m Listening To Today:

Ben Folds Five: The Sound of the Life of the Mind.

It’s been 12 years since the breakup of the BFFs, and just so you know, there are only three of them. Get on it, listen to this album and stop complaining about the state of music, reality TV shows, and the death of quality rock at the hands of a-capella. You know who you are.

Enjoy.

  1. Ben Folds is always good. This album doesn’t surprise me in any way, but I still like it. I promise not to complain.
